I first recognized that global warming was the greatest threat of our generation when I was attending graduate school at Oxford University in England in 2004. While my background had been as a musician and tech entrepreneur/CEO, I determined that my working hours would be best spent on trying to develop solutions to address global warming. I dabbled in biofuels, cleantech, carbon markets, and state and federal advocacy. More recently I spent six-years as executive director of The Climate Registry, a prominent NGO that works with hundreds of states, cities, and businesses to measure and take action to reduce their carbon footprint. I am also a Northern California Chapter Director for Environmental Entrepreneurs (E2.org) and founder of the Sustainability Leaders Podcast.

 

My transition from Internet start-ups to running a climate policy-based non-profit was not an easy one. Whether you are just graduating from university or trade school or transitioning from another industry, there are few formal pathways to a career in sustainability. And if you are an executive or emerging leader working in energy, transportation, agriculture, or other sectors related to our transformation to a sustainable future, your work can be very challenging.
